Reduce, re-use and recycle

If we all make a couple of small changes to reduce our waste, it will make a big difference to the overall amount that gets thrown away every day in Salford.

It’s a great way to save money, it’s better for the environment and it helps towards limiting the carbon emissions that are involved with manufacturing new products.

Top 5 tips for reducing, re-using and recycling:

  1. Repair things where you can – for instance get shoes resoled/reheeled, sew fallen hems, replace buttons and mend zips instead of buying new.
  2. Swap to a reusable coffee cup or water bottle.
  3. Buy second-hand – sites like Vinted and eBay are great for picking up a bargain and many items are as good as new.
  4. Donate old clothes and unwanted items that are still in good condition to charity – help reduce the amount that ends up in landfill.
  5. Buy products with refillable packaging – you’ll be doing your bit to reduce the need to manufacture single use packaging.
