Change how you travel
Reducing your car journeys and switching to walking, cycling, public transport or even a Lime e-scooter won’t only cut down your carbon footprint - it can save you money, help you get fitter and healthier and make the streets safer and cleaner for our children.
Not got the bus for a while? Unsure about cycling or e-scooters? It’s never been easier!
Getting the bus
A single adult fare is just £2 (£1 for a child), and if you use the bus more regularly it’s only £21 to travel on any bus in Greater Manchester for seven days (£10.50 for a child).
Parts of Salford are now covered by the ‘Bee Network’. Download the app and find your nearest stops, get live departure times, buy your tickets and more.
The new Bee Network has improved bus travel in Greater Manchester, with improvements including:
- more daytime and weekend services on some routes.
- earlier and later buses on some routes
- 50 new zero-emission electric buses.
- 30 more TravelSafe Officers to help keep you safe.
- A range of new tickets to make travel even more affordable for buses and trams
Give it a try and see how you get on!
Walk or cycle
Salford is a great place to walk and cycle and there’s a number of upcoming improvements and schemes to make it even better. Find out what’s happening near you
If you’re new to cycling and don’t have your own bike, you could look at borrowing one - there are self-service bike stations in Salford open 24/7. Find out more at Cycle Hire | TfGM Bee Active
Not sure how you’d get to your destination on a bike? Have a look at the Greater Manchester online cycle map which shows on and off road routes, cycle parking and cycle shops to help plan your route. In Salford we’ve got a network of loop lines which are excellent for cycling and there has been lots of investments in cycle lanes in central Salford to make it safer and easier for cyclists to get around.
CycleStreets is a journey planner which lets you choose routes based on how busy or quiet the route is so you can find the best route for you.
There’s lots of support and programmes for people who have disabilities or long term health conditions which could help make walking and cycling more accessible. Find out more on the Bee Active website.
Hire an e-scooter
Lime e-scooters are currently available to hire and use between the University of Salford, Salford Quays and up to the boundary with Manchester, as well as parts of Pendleton to Salford Royal Hospital. Ideal for short journeys, the e-scooters can use bike lanes and shared footways where cycling is allowed.
It’s part of the Department for Transport’s E-scooter trial and you can find out more on the Lime website.
