Change your car to electric

As well as reducing air pollution and your carbon footprint, switching to an electric vehicle could save you money.

Electricity is less than a third of the cost of petrol or diesel, you’ll save on road tax, and with more and more charging points becoming available, it’s never been easier to get about in an electric car.

What’s more, if you make lots of short trips, that can be hard on engines. Electric cars are more reliable and cheaper to maintain than diesel and petrol cars.

Charging points

On the move

For day to day journeys you won’t need to charge up on the move. But for longer distances, or when you do need to top up, you’re never far from a charging point. Salford has the highest number of charging points in Greater Manchester, with 114 chargers for public use available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You’ll find them at petrol stations, in car parks, on local streets. There are around 360 chargers in total across Greater Manchester. Find the locations here.

At home

You can look at getting a charging point installed at home and the government will pay 75% of the cost up to £350. Find out about Home Charging Grants.

Choosing the right energy tariff can save you even more money.
