Salford youth bike project

Over 300 bikes have been given to Salford families and over 1,000 bikes have been repaired, as part of a recycling project by Salford Youth Service.

To help reduce the number of bikes that end up in landfill, Salford Youth Bike Project is asking for old bikes that are no longer wanted, whatever their condition. They’ll work with young people to repair the bikes, or use them for parts, teaching the young people about bike maintenance and how to fix broken bikes. Once repaired, the bikes are given to young people living in Salford to help them get to school, college or work, without having to rely on car journeys. As well as helping to reduce the city’s carbon emissions, the project is helping families to save money on new bikes, as well as petrol or bus fares and is also helping young people to improve their general fitness and wellbeing.
