Solar car ports at council depots
Solar panels have been installed on top of car ports at council depots in Eccles and Swinton.
The new ‘solar car ports’, which cover the parking spaces at the depots, are generating half a megawatt of power. This goes into the buildings on the site and also into powering our fleet of electric vehicles.
The £1.5 million scheme is part of the Unlocking Clean Energy in Greater Manchester programme, partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the government and partly through council funds. The scheme will generate significant savings over the next 25 years.
